Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal treatments use light energy to permanently damage or destroy hair follicles—usually on the legs, back, underarms, or face—with the goal of preventing hair from growing back. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says laser hair removal effectively reduces the amount of hair you have by about 70%. While it may not remove it forever, the hair that grows back is usually much finer and less noticeable.
Unlike most clinics, at High Brow and Beauty we use a grid system that ensures every inch of the body area is covered. Through this method, you can be sure all hairs will be targeted and results will be noticeable early on in the treatment process. We also don’t charge extra for missed patches, whereas others will charge for this service.
Patient selection is a key aspect of treatment. Hair colour and skin type are the two most important factors. Temporary loss almost always occurs, but for long term hair removal, the colour is a significant factor. Black or brown indicates a high concentration of melanin in the follicle and is ideal for treatment. Blonde and red shades are treated less successfully, while white and grey remains unaffected.
What to expect
The length of a session may be a few minutes up to an hour or more, depending upon the size of the area being treated. A course of treatments are recommended for optimal results. An average course of treatment is usually 6 to 8 sessions, however this all depends upon a number of factors, including the hair’s ability to absorb the light. As, hair grows in three different phases, treatment tends to be more successful in the anagen phase of the cycle.
This is the active growth phase. The laser treatment itself can cause some minor discomfort. Most clients tolerate the procedure with minimal discomfort, but for those with a low pain threshold, a topical anaesthetic is always available. The appearance of the treated area immediately after a session does vary from one person to another. The after-effects are usually minor, and may include some redness. Most people are able to return immediately to normal activity.
Is the treatment permanent?
Many of us have experienced the frustration that comes with unwanted growth. Whilst we have solutions like waxing, plucking and shaving, they all have certain things in common: they’re messy, time consuming and a major hassle. Most of all, these methods are purely temporary. Fortunately, laser treatment provides a permanent solution for a range of areas. We can provide fantastic results for facial, full body and Brazilian options, obtaining permanent reductions in growth.
This is achieved through a series of sessions that target specific areas of growth and eliminate the follicles. The general principle is that between four and eight treatment sessions can eliminate 90% of growth permanently
Will all my hair be removed in one treatment?
Hair grows in cycles, so no laser can offer permanent hair removal in just one session. Our Medical Grade treatments are performed every 8 to 10 weeks for the body and every 4 to 6 weeks for the face. This can offer 90% permanent removal in just 6 to 8 treatments. Please be aware that factors such as hormones, certain medications and genetics can cause long term growth, so while the hair may not permanently be removed, growth is greatly reduced and maintenance treatments may be required.
Can it work for everyone?
It’s important to have a consultation with Dr. Castro prior to treatment to determine whether you’re suitable for treatment. While we provide treatments for men and women, different skin colours and different hair colours affect how the procedure works.
